Halloween Parade and Dance (October)
Each year, the school has a dance hosted by the Parent Organization the Friday before Halloween for the middle school children. The school also has a parade that circulates the entire block of the school for the lower grades on the day of Halloween.
Spirit Day (November)
Spirit Day is an annual event that takes place the day before the TACHS exam and two days before the school's basketball teams play their first games at home. Spirit Day is a fun event where the teachers take on the eighth graders in a variety of sports while the whole school looks on in the gymnasium. Students have the oppurtunity to buy the spirit day merchandise in September and early October so that they can wear it on gym days, spirit day, and at all sporting events throughout the year.
Christmas Tree Lighting (December)
Mr. Vitiello in his first year as principal decided to place a Christmas tree in front of the school to mark the beginning of the Christmas season at St. Benedict School. After our December Mass, Mr. Vitiello invited all students to hang an ornament of their own on the Christmas tree and had the school sing Christmas carols. This newly created tradition will continue for many years to come.
Cocoa w/ Santa (December)
The Parent Organization organizes this yearly event for the younger grades to meet Santa, take pictures, and listen to Christmas stories being read aloud.
Confirmation Quilt (December)
In preparation to receive the Holy Spirit, the seventh grade sews a quilt with Mrs. Rosano. Each student is responsible for sewing a symbol onto a patch that is related to the saint that they picked for their confiirmation name. When completed, the quilt hangs in the school auditorium.
Music Class Perfomances (Christmas & Spring)
Under the direction of our music teacher, the students of St. Benedict School put on two performances a year after hours of practicing in Music class. St. Benedict School always has a Christmas performance in December and a themed Spring show.
Variety Show (Spring)
The students of St. Benedict showcase a variety of talents and skills in an event organized by Mrs. Berardini and Mrs. Siciliano. The students spend time after school at practices to try and perfect their routines to put on a show for their parents and the entire school community.
8th Grade Philadelphia Trip (November)
After learning about the American Revolution in seventh grade, eighth grade takes a day trip to Philadelphia to visit the American Revolution Museum. Once their tour is completed, they then tour the surrounding area to see the Liberty Bell and other Philadelphia landmarks.
8th Grade Washington D.C. Trip (May)
As a way to mark the end of their time at St. Benedict School, the eighth grade travels to Washington D.C. a few days before Memorial Day. This is strategically planned because students are able to shake the hands of veterans visiting Arlington Cemetery. Students also visit the outside of the White House and many other landmarks. The trip takes place in one day and lasts from 6 A.M. until midnight.
